E-Cigarette Troubleshooting

Your e-cig is broken? Sad to say, but most probably you are not going to be able to fix it. But the good news is that we’ve managed to get several e-cig discounts for our readers. Make sure to check these out and get yourself a quality e-cigarette.

Maybe you missed our suggestions what are the best e-cigarettes and things didn’t really go according to the plan. TOr tere could also be a good chance that you are doing something wrong. Although the concept of the electronic cigarette is fairly simple, using it does take a bit of practice. It’s not rocket science by any means, but there are still a few things that you should be aware of. We have noticed that there isn’t a lot of information on the internet about what to do when things go wrong with your e-cigarette, so we have decided to make life easier and create a troubleshooting guide of most common problems for electronic cigarettes.

Why is my battery flashing?

If your battery is flashing, it might mean that it is faulty. Generally it will mean that you need to put it on charge. If the battery is only flashing when you are trying to puff away on it, the latter is more than likely the case.

Why does my cartridge taste so bad?

If things are starting to taste less than pleasant, it’s probably time to replace the cartridge. Usually this is a sure fire sign that the liquid within the cartridge has run out, and you therefore need to screw a new one on to the battery.

On the other hand, if you have been refilling your cartridges and you have had them for a few weeks, they could be burning out. Also, if you are finding that your cartridges are tasting poor right out of the packet, the manufacturer may have sent you a faulty batch so it might be worth getting in contact with the company that you have purchased them from to find out what you can do next.

My battery doesn’t last very long!

A lot of things will affect how long your battery will hold a charge for. If you use it a lot, as in you are constantly smoking on it, you might be killing the battery. It’s like any electronic gadget – the more you charge it, the less power it will hold. Even rechargeable batteries need replacing every once in a while.

If you fail to let the battery completely die before you start charging it, the battery itself might have “forgotten” exactly how much “juice” it can hold. This means that you need to start letting the battery completely conk out before you put it on charge again. Also, if you leave your battery on charge for too long, you could also be killing it so make sure, as soon as the little light turns green to indicate that charging has completed, you remove the battery from the charger.

I’m not getting anything from my e-cig?

If you are puffing away and not getting anywhere, you should first check the following things:

  • Is the battery charged?
  • Is the cartridge a new one?
  • Are there lights on the battery?
  • How about putting it in the charger? Does anything happen?

If nothing is happening and you have tried all that we have mentioned above, the battery could be faulty. They do need replacing every couple of months, so how long have you been using it for?

I’ve refilled my cartridge and it still tastes pretty bad. What’s wrong?

If you tried to save some money and refilled your cartridge to get rid of the bitter taste of a dry one, you might have burned out the cartridge. If you have been using the same one over and over again for a while, it can burn out.

At the same time, if you let your cartridge get COMPLETELY bone dry in between refilling it, it could also burn out. The fiber in the cartridge that holds the liquid will start to become brittle when it is dry, and this will make things taste pretty bad. If you have opened the cartridge and the fiber within it looks brown, it means that it is start to break down and it is time to order some more.

Why do I keep getting liquid in my mouth?

If you are puffing away on your electronic cigarette and liquid seems to be pouring into your mouth, you might be overfilling the cartridge. Alternatively, you might find that you are “drawing” far too much on the cigarette – either too long an in-breath, or too hard!

Take the cartridge away from the battery and wipe any liquid residue away. Once you have done this, give the middle hole of the cartridge a good blow to make sure that you are clearing any excess away.

Why am I not getting any vapor?

If you are struggling to get anything out of your electronic cigarette, there could be a number of things wrong. Firstly, check your battery. Secondly, check that your cartridge has enough liquid in it to still function properly. On top of this, make sure that there is no gunk between the cartridge and the battery – sometimes there can be a buildup and this prevents you from screwing the cartridge back on again properly. Give it a good clean with a damp (not wet) cloth, or a Q-tip.

Why does my battery cut out mid-puff?

If you take an exceptionally long inhale on your e-cig, there is a good chance that there is an automatic cut-off which prevents the battery from dying, and also the e-cig itself from overheating. This means that, after a few seconds of inhaling, it will cut out. If you are finding that this does this regularly for you, you need to take shorter puffs on your e-cig. Alternatively, it might be worth trying another model.

There are plenty of problems that can accompany an electronic cigarette, especially if you aren’t sure whether or not you are using it properly. It is well worth reading all of the instructions plus the trouble shooting guides that many brands will include in their kids to make sure that you aren’t damaging your e-cig in any way.

I have the Pro 3 by VaporFi and my juice is disappearing! This vape is a basic, pen-looking one and I’m very new to vaping so I don’t know the terminology.

I fill my tank up and it slowly disappears. I’ve separated the tank from the battery and it’s not leaking there; I don’t see it or feel it in the hole in the middle of the tank either! The atomizer is not new, the same one the lady at the store put in when I got the vape a week and a half ago. She showed me how to wet it and did it herself so everything is set up how it should be. Sometimes there is a little juice residue in the mouth piece but never a quarter or the tank or however much else is disappearing. However, sometimes I do see what looks like steam in the window of the tank. So am I drawing too long on it, causing the juice to overheat and evaporate? I just don’t know where it’s going!!!

Is it true that the battery needs replacing every few months?!
I spent $60 on one & it’s already acting up after a few weeks. I paid that bc I thought if I bought a “good” one it’d last.
When I 1st began vaping my local shop had a deal for a free mini kit when U got 5 sm bottles of oil ($25+/-) & I’m still using them after a yr! (They’re VaporExpress btw)
Why spend $$$ if they need replacing after only a few months? Or did I misunderstand something?

Not really. Eventually the battery dies, but it shouldn’t die in 2 months’ time.

Hi.ive been using e cigs on and off for a year or so. Really struggling with them. Recommend strength for me is 18 as I smoke twenty a day and sometimes more. But it makes me choke. So reduced the strength to 16 but crave terribly. Any advice much appreciated. My dad died with COPD two years ago. I need to give up.

Hey Nicola! Have you tried changing the producer of the e-juice? You should try vegetable glycerin (VG) based juice instead of propylene glycol (PG) based, it doesn’t give such a throat hit.
Also, try drinking water when you vape.
Maybe it’s how you vape as well? The vaping technique is somewhat different from smoking. Here’s a good video explaining the difference: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qlODPsbXUn8
I’d also say that if you smoked more than a pack a day, you need 24mg to start.

I just got an EGo H5 e cig, its my first one, and from the first time I’ve tried to use it, it consistently makes a hissing noise when the atomizer is screwed on to the battery. Also it’s overheating anytime it is connected to he battery. I’m not overusing as I’ve only actually taken a few puffs. I’m a little scared to use it now. Anybody know anything about this?

Hey Amber! I’d suggest to return the e-cig. The hissing noise isn’t anything bad (just annoying), but it shouldn’t overheat like that (could be dangerous). Return it to the seller and ask for a one that doesn’t overheat and hiss 🙂

i just got my e-cig in the mail 2 days ago and when i go to smoke it i click the button and it blinks 3 times. i have tried turning it off and on moving the connector any suggestions.

      Hey Logan,
What you could try is to take a needle and gently lift the little plate inside the battery’s threading. If it’s a connection problem, it could make it work. Let us know how it goes.

Thank you so much this little needle trick got mine working again

3 times now the center of the battery connection has risen up to the point that the cartridge can’t be screwed into the battery, and the battery can’t be screwed into the charger connector. They don’t press back down, and when I have the one I have been able to get apart in pieces, I can’t see how to get at the bottom of the center part to adjust or see what the problem might be. Not able to get 2 of the longer batteries apart. Any suggestions? What is happening? Why are they popping up? Thanks….LouLani

      Again, what’s the brand? 🙂
      I understand it’s a 2-piece ecig (cig-a-like)?

ego-T, and the longer style e-go. The outer case is gone with the printing, so can’t say exactly on the longer ones. Also happened on the vapor-x, and one that just said China.

Sadly, all I can say is that get yourself a Halo Triton (vGo) or VaporFi Pro (eGo) and you won’t have similar problems… Though most of the e-cigs look similar there’s a huge difference in quality.

I bought a brand new e cig. But there is no smoke conming out of it, and when i put that on charge, the redlight goes off automatically after 5 min.

What’s the name of the brand? Sadly, a lot of (even well known) brands produce a lot of crap. Most likely it’s just a malfunctioning battery and there’s nothing to do with it. If possible, return it to the seller and ask for a refund (and get yourself a good quality ecig like Green Smoke or Halo).

I just switched my juice nicotine level from 6mg to 10mg and I get a sour, bitter flavor when drawing on it I’ve changed to a new coil, I’ve changed the battery I’ve replaced the tank and it still tastes sour and bitter. I don’t know what to do. I feel I should stop vaping and give up. Please help me. I’m desperate!!!

    • admin April 10, 2015 at 7:48 am - Reply

      Hey Cindy,
10mg shouldn’t definitely have a more bitter taste than 6mg. Is it the same producer’s juice? What brand? Have you tried other producers’ juices?
